Hot! Nfl Power Rankings

Every year, a select group of suckers buy into the Houston Texans .

Every year, they're disappointed, and this season will be no different.

The Texans took advantage of a depleted Indianapolis roster and ran away with a convincing Week 1 victory over the shell-shocked Colts .

Houston jumped out early, and by the time Indianapolis found any rhythm, the game was far out of reach. The Texans have been pegged as the next great AFC South power for years, and yet again, this team will fool fans and media members into believing the hype.

If you look at it realistically, it's never going to happen for Houston.

This is a franchise that has never made the playoffs and it's not hard to see why. Houston is flat-out soft. Gary Kubiak doesn't have that hard edge to mold his team into one that can win when the going gets tough. Where is the leader on this team that will rally the troops in tough times? I'm sorry, but that person isn't there.

Until proven otherwise, the Texans should be doubted at every pass, and Sunday's win shouldn't change matters. Without Peyton Manning , the Colts are flat out lost, and Kerry Collins isn't the guy you want starting your season opener.

In fact, he couldn't even cut it in behind Vince Young, and he took over a team where the quarterback is everything. It was a nightmare scenario and this was a team ripe for the picking and Houston did what it had to do.

Will the Houston Texans make the playoffs? Yes No Undecided Total votes: 353

We shouldn't take anymore from today's result than that, yet media members will be ready to coronate the Texans, only to watch it crumble around a quarterback who doesn't have the toughness to win a division crown. How many times does Houston have to be exposed as a soft, poorly coached team for people to realize that the wheels will eventually fall off?

By the time Week 17 rolls around, the Texans will be somewhere around .500 and their fans will be frustrated with another failed season. Some things never change, and until they get a coach who can instill toughness, the Texans will continue to fall short of expectations.

We need constants in sports, and Houston's mediocrity will be one for football fans.
